I completed my first triathlon about a couple of months ago in Baumholder, Germany. It was a great fun first triathlon to do! It consisted of a 600 meter lake swim, ~22 mile bike, and ~5 mile run. Renee and I will be completing in the Koln Triathlon coming up in a week and a half, and we really need some pointers with spotting.
This morning I had an open water swim scheduled, but my friend who was supposed to be giving me some pointers bailed on Renee and I at the last minute. So, we decided to go on a little 6 mile run on base, and then hit the pool. To start the morning off right, I had a whole wheat english muffin with cherry preserves and peanut butter. I know that it looks cloudy, but it was actually really nice out today. Anytime the sun is out, it is important to take full advantage of it living in Germany!
We ended the run at the pool. Overall, I just felt sluggish and slow. I really wasn’t that hungry the day before, and I think that affected me today. After a couple of Fig Newtons, we were ready to hit the water. We started off with a 200 meter warm up, 200 m kick, 200 m pull, and 100 m dolphin kick with fins. Then, we swam 8 x 50 m sets of race pace sprints. I was regaining my strength! The last 50 meters was hard, but I cranked it out. We cooled down with 200 meters. In the last 200 meters it felt good to stretch out my muscles with nice long lean strokes. :) I can’t believe I look like a swimmer when I swim now!
I’ve got lots of organizing to do before school starts! See you tomorrow!! Happy running!!!
