The 8 Miler and the Pool – Geek Turned Athlete

The 8 Miler and the Pool

I woke up this morning wanting to run, but then I kept conveniently finding other things to do instead of running.  I had to meet two others at the pool by 11am, and it was nearing the cut off point of the time needed to run 8 miles.  I had to say to myself, “You never regret running, you only regret NOT running.”  This works for anything relating to working out for me.  I had to say it a few times out loud before my body believed it, and I reluctantly put my running clothes on…

It was a very slow and hilly 8 miles, but it went by fast regardless.  The area round my house is hill after hill after hill.  I was happy that I made myself get out there after about 5 minutes of running.  :) There were a lot of people out walking their dogs, and I got to use my very limited German to converse with the walkers.  I am a “friendly” runner.  I always wave and say hello.  I try to not to get offended when people don’t wave back, but sometimes it just gets hard not to at mile 7 when you just want to be home, and the person that you just waved to just stares at you.  I have noticed that happens a lot more in Germany.  The older people are very stoic here.  Oh well.  I guess that I just need to get used to it!!  The run went just fine, and after I got done I had just enough time to stretch and then head to the pool.

I met up with Renee again for another swim.  This one consisted of a 200 m warm-up, 200 m kick, 200 m pull, 100 m dolphin kick with fins, 8 x 100 race pace R20 sec, and a 200 meter cool down.  I call this workout W2.  We totaled 1700 meters.  I felt tired from yesterday, but I just pushed it through.

The Hubby got back this afternoon after skydiving all over Europe for basically 3 weeks.  What a life, huh?!  Anyway, I was so happy to see him!  For dinner, we started out with some Hefeweisen that was delivered from our beer guy (Yes, we have a beer delivery man much like the milk man!  He comes by every Thursday to refill our “beer” fridge.)

DSC02157  Yum!!!  Then, we had grilled beef tenderloin, baked potatoes, and a wonderful filling salad!DSC02161 The salad had spinach, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, basil, and AVACADO!  We tossed it will Newman’s Own Olive Oil and Vinegar dressing.  I LOVE salads!  I try to eat at least one a day!

Tomorrow, I’m meeting a group for a 2 hour bike ride!  It should be fun!  Good night!
