Tapering Week for a Sprint/Olympic… HA!

So, this week I’m supposed to be tapering for my Koln Triathlon this weekend.  I know that this must seem almost ridiculous to my half/ full Ironman readers, but that is what my Triathlon: Training Basics book says to do.  Here is what my week looks like:

  • Monday: Run 30 min (include 2×90 sec race pace), Power Yoga
  • Tuesday: Run 4 miles (these were hilly!), Swim W1
  • Wednesday: BRICK: Bike 30 min (4x 30 sec accel), then run 10 min (2×30 accel), Yoga
  • Thursday: Swim W2
  • Friday: Bike 30 min easy, run through gears
  • Saturday: RACE!!!! Swim 700 meters, Bike 24 km (~15 miles) , Run 7 km (~4.4 miles)

The race is in between a regular sprint and olympic distance.  I’m trying not to freak out about the open water swim.  I know that it is not that long of a distance, but I got kicked in the ribs last race, and I’m not really an aggressive swimmer.  I know that I need to get tougher, but I’m really at the point of just letting people pass me if they are going to kick and punch.

The run and swim went just fine today.  Every single time I go swimming now, I think about how far I have come.  No, I’m still not as fast as my husband.  He is ridiculous fast, but the girl that couldn’t make her high school swim team is swimming just fine now!

On another note: I just feel really restless with this schedule this week.  It doesn’t seem like I’m doing anything.  I need to watch my diet this week too.  I think that it is important to be mindful of the fact that I’m not burning as many calories with this taper week.  I feel starving, but when I really think about it, my mind is just used to eating a lot bigger portions.  The good thing about this week is that I’m really enjoying the extra time that I have to get caught up with school.  Yes, it’s a week and a half in, and I’m already behind!!

These pics are of the Ramstein Aquatic Center.  It is a really nice pool facility on base that I swim at.  It actually wasn’t very busy today!  I had the lane to myself for most of my workout!DSC02303
