Heading Towards D.C. – Geek Turned Athlete

Heading Towards D.C.

Hi Guys!!  I’m sorry that I didn’t post yesterday, but we got into D.C. at midnight, and I had to get up at 5am for a Pentagon tour.  Here is a recap of our roadtrip to D.C. from Asheville yesterday:

I forgot to add this earlier: We actually went on a quick 3 mile run yesterday too just to move the lactic acid in our legs from weight lifting hard this week.  The first mile was painful!  Then after that, my legs warmed up, and I was much better!  By the way, when I say we ran together, that actually means that I got to stare at Steve’s butt for the whole run.  He likes running ahead of me for some reason!  Annoying, but I’m slowly getting used to it. The view isn’t bad, so I can’t complain that much!

We stopped at a BBQ place in Swanannoa called Okie Dokie’s on our way out of town.  It was so good!  I have been craving fried pickles for months and finally got to have some!  Amazing!!!!  If you haven’t had fried pickles before, you NEED to try them!  I didn’t want to at first, but my husband made me, and I’m glad that he did.

I filled up on the salad before I got to the main course.DSC03078

Baked potato with pulled pork, butter, sour cream, and cheese.  It was really good, but I could only finish about 1/3 of it!DSC03079

And of course, some sweet tea!!!DSC03083

On our way to D.C., we stopped to visit a friend in Durham, NC at Duke University.  He is getting his Ph.D. in international relations.  Smart guy!!  Here is a pic of Sean and I in front of the chapel.  Beautiful!DSC03087 DSC03088

Then, we walked around campus for about an hour and a half.  It really is a gorgeous campus if you haven’t been.  You can tell that people have money there though.  A lot different from UNM!!!!  I think that we must have walked 3-4 miles around campus.DSC03092 DSC03094

Afterward, we stopped at Sean’s favorite bar near the university, Dain’s Place.  They are known for their burgers and beer!!DSC03110 DSC03111DSC03103

I tried this beer.  It was actually really good.  Similar to a hef.DSC03105 I decided on a burger with guac, tomato, mustard, lettuce, onions, pickles, bleu cheese, and ketchup.  It was really good, and the hamburger melted in my mouth.  They had veggie burgers that looked really good there too.DSC03108 DSC03109

After a very long visit with Sean, we got on the road.  It was a very LONG drive to D.C.  Like I said before, we didn’t get in until about midnight!  Then, we had a 5am wake up call!  I’m headed out for dinner towards the Dupont Circle area now!!  I’ll be back soon!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!!! 😉
