Productive Vacation Day?

by Nicole on October 7, 2009

This morning, Steve and I were up by 5:30.  We headed to the gym to get in a good warm-up and weights.  Our warm-up was an intense 20 minutes on the row machine.  I hadn’t been on one of those things for at least 2 years, and had forgotten what a good workout it is!!!  Afterwards, we came home and had some whole wheat hot cereal.  If you love oatmeal, but are bored with it, this is definitely something you should try!  Creamy with still a little texture.  We cooked it with some raisins and milk/water, then topped it with some pb and a little brown sugar.  mmmmmDSC03009

Steve had to work on the farm all day getting it ready for our rehearsal dinner there, and I was left at the house that we are staying at for the entire day.  There needed to be some heavy cleaning done since this is a vacation house, and from what I’m guessing it is rarely cleaned.  I also had to work on some homework.

I broke from cleaning and studying for a wonderful lunch.    It consisted of a juicy, flavorful heirloom tomato,DSC03016 DSC03017

Briannas Balsamic vinegar dressing, DSC03020 shrimp, pine nuts, mixed greens, cucumbers, and red onions along with some shaved parmesan.  This definitely hit the spot!DSC03023

We were just planning on having leftovers again tonight, but Steve called me on the way home from working on the farm and asked if I wanted to go to the Cellar Door.  It is one of my favorite places in Black Mountain, NC, and of course, I said yes!!!DSC03026

You literally need to walk down some stairs to get to the restaurant!DSC03027

I ordered some French onion soup.  It was really tasty, but I always like more bread in mine.  It was still really good though!!DSC03030

Then, my favorite thing to eat at this place: Shrimp and grits!  These are not ordinary shrimp and grits, but they have goat cheese mixed in with some parsley, spinach, roasted peppers, onions, with a cream sauce on top.  DSC03033I don’t know what else they add to it, but I do know that it is sooooooooooooooooo freaking good!!!  However, it was sooo rich that I was only able to finish 1/3 of it.DSC03032 I proceeded to get quite tipsy off this ONE glass of Pinot Grigio.  It was really good, especially for $6.50 a glass.DSC03034

Overall, it was a wonderful night!   The food was wonderful, and I can’t wait to come back again!!!  Plus, I love going out to eat and dressing up with my hubby!!!DSC03038

That French Onion soup looks fantastic!

It’s funny, when I saw the Cellar Door, I immediately thought that you were in Boston – there’s a place called The Cellar here with a really similar sign outside!

Looks like the food and wine there is pretty good =D
