I did a 5-day vegan diet two weeks ago to try it out, as well. I've actually incorporated a lot more vegan meals into my diet since then. I feel a lot better (less tiredness, bloating, etc). I don't think I'll ever fully give up dairy. That's just wrong.

The book I'm reading right now is FABULOUS. It's called "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's funny, but gets right to the point about vegetarianism. I highly recommend it.

Great post! (sorry about your muffins!)

I agree with you - I think humans are meant to eat meat. But I think that meat should be treated, and slaughtered, humanely. So I try to buy all of my meat from a local farmer's market, where it is free-range, and often organic. It costs more, but it's worth it.

I loved In Defense of Food and Omnivore's Dilemna, I think you will really enjoy them! Which cookbook did you order?

You are sooooo buff, and you don't eat meat?!!! Well, that just goes to show that you can get enough protein, I guess! I grew up eating meat with every meal. I'm having a hard time cutting it out, but I really want to make it one of my goals to cut at least some of it out! I have that book, and I am planning on reading it on my cruise this week!

I'm vegetarian - grew up that way, always have been, so it's really all I've known. I tried fish at one point and did not like it. AT ALL. Probably sounds weird, but true. I also eat a lot of cheese, but I'm kind of ok with it (I like it) :)

Have you read the book Animal, Miracle, Vegetable? I think you might like it.

I am worried about getting enough protein b/c of my marathon training and triathlon training too! You know? I know that you can get protein from beans and tofu, but I don't think that I could eat that all the time!

I've loved reading all those books, and while I'm still an omnivore, I feel it's very important to eat meat sparingly and conscientiously. I pretty much only eat eggs and beef, in terms of meat, and only just enough beef for the nutrition I need as a serious endurance athlete.

The inhumane and unsafe practices in our food production has led me to consider becoming vegetarian, but for now I'm not ready to make that step. I AM ready for Life cereal with soy milk - delicious!
