I had a fun filled day with rock climbing, swimming, and indoor cycling. I was going to go on a short run this morning too, but the rain spoiled it for me. It is one thing to be cold, but to be cold and wet, not worth it! I grew up in the southwestern part of the U.S. where there is hardly any rain, and this German weather is killing me! Oh well!
I headed to the pool for a mini swim workout this morning. I didn’t want to push it that hard since I hadn’t been in the pool for a couple of months. I was really nervous to swim for some reason. I always have some anxiety about getting back in the pool after a hiatus. I don’t know why. Maybe it has something to do with me not making it onto my swim team in h.s.? I have a really negative association with it, and I always think that I can’t do it. Once I finally get in and swim, I’m fine though. Weird. I ended up swimming about 1000 meters today. It felt so good to get back into the water. I don’t know why I stress myself out so badly before hand! I didn’t feel any pressure to go fast, and I just worked on my technique. Just a few things that I kept repeating to myself during the workout:
- Nice and smooth, nice and smooth.
- Long lean muscles. Stretch those arms out.
- Rotate the hips with every stroke.
- Pull close to the body.
- Breathe! Don’t hold your breath under the water! Breathe out.
After the pool, I headed over to the climbing gym on base. It is brand spankin’ new, and I had yet to check it out.
The climbing was awesome!! I have to admit that I have never gone to a rock climbing gym that had this much detail on their walls. It was pretty cool. I got my belay test out of the way while I was there. Apparently, they have changed the belay method since the last time that I went into an American climbing gym. So, it was good to learn something new (a much safer method) while getting a workout. I have been climbing now for about 6 or 7 years, and I still love it! I need new shoes badly though!
After that, I met up with a friend who I hadn’t seen in a while, then headed home. I still needed to finish up putting my music together for spin class tonight. It was a great class tonight. I talked to one of my friends who went to my first class and the one tonight, and she said that I was like night and day. Much, much better! Yay! She said that I seemed a lot more confident. I also taught a squadron on Monday that went really well. Practice makes perfect, right? Everyone was drenched in sweat by the end of the class, and they all left with smiles on their faces. That is what I like to see!
Well, I’m exhausted and ready to go to bed and it’s only 8:30pm over here! Good night!!
