“The Story of Stuff” – Geek Turned Athlete

“The Story of Stuff”

As you all know, I’m a graduate student in the environmental engineering department at University of Florida.  I have been swamped with homework lately, and I swear that I will get that Aqua Jogging post up by tomorrow.  However, I did want to share this video with you that got me very riled up today.  I had to watch it for one of my homework assignments, and it, honestly, made me nauseous.  It is called “The Story of Stuff.” Click play once the video comes up.  Seriously, if you claim to care about the environment, you can take 20 minutes out of your day whether it be to take a break from mindlessly watching TV or reading blogs!! It is that important!

THINK about your spending habits!!!!  THINK about your consumption of materials!!!!  If you had an “ah ha” moment from watching this video, please comment!!!

I just watched this (well 15 minutes of it, because it shut off on me!) and all I have to say is, wow! This really gives me something (well many) things to think about…I agree with almost everything said in this video, and it was very eye opening and convicting…thank you for posting it!!

Very thought-provoking! My cellphone is 6 years old and is slightly falling apart, but it still works and the battery power is still fantastic. I was going to buy a new one but now I’ve decided I’ll wait til it actually dies. Hopefully this goes a tiny way to balance out the fact that I belong to 2 (small) gyms, with all the consumption involved in that! The energy and waste involved in keeping up with the latest fashion has always bothered me, especially concerning stores that sell cheap clothes that aren’t designed to last more than 5 washes (disposable fashion). I’m glad purple is in this season – I like the colour and will keep wearing it until another colour comes along that I actually like, rather than updating my wardrobe in 3 months according to what the fashion police tell me I should wear!
