Wahine Sport Giveaway!!

by Nicole on December 22, 2011

Hey guys! I’m glad you enjoyed my Ironman final thoughts post. I hope you are having a great week so far. I have a treat for you today. I’m giving away a pair of Wahine Sport Running Sleeves. You have until next Thursday, December 29th to comment on this post for a chance to win.

Background story on these beautiful things:

At the Portland Marathon Expo, the hubs and I were wandering around trying to find a long sleeve shirt to buy since I was an idiot and forgot to pack a long sleeved shirt along with many other items. Anyway, I passed by the Wahine Sport booth, and these beautiful arm sleeves/gloves caught my eye. Since her stand was so popular, and we got there really late in the day, the owner was sold out of my size for these sleeves above (these are now in stock!!), and I ended up buying these gray ones. We chatted for a while, and I found out that Wahine means “woman” in Hawaiian. I handed her my card with my blog information on it, and mentioned that I would love to feature her product and possibly do a giveaway on my blog. I didn’t really expect to hear anything from her.

I LOVE these things. Not only are they comfortable, but they fit perfectly because they come in different sizes. Plus, they have a little pocket in each sleeve for chapstick, money, a key, etc. Love it!!! I wore them for the Portland Marathon.

I even wore them for my Ironman. When it got hot, I just pushed them down, and used them to wipe my snot and sweat on. I know it wasn’t very glamorous, but they are very useful when pulled down as well!

They have many more designs than just these so please check them out! Let’s support our small businesses. :) When the owner contacted me about doing a giveaway a few weeks ago, I was elated!!  Plus, the owner walks the walk. She is a runner of many races!! She recently ran the Santa Barbara Marathon in November.

So, what do you have to do to get a pair of these beautiful AND USEFUL things?? If you haven’t already, read my last post about stepping out of your comfort zone and answer the following questions here on this post:

How do you plan on stepping out of your comfort zone in 2012? Training for any races or trying anything new? Come on, I know you have been thinking about it! I will pick a random entry, and announce it next Thursday!!

I need to do some more cross-training. In 2012 I’m going to go to my first yoga class. I hope I don’t fall flat on my face!

I’m seriously toying with the idea of a redemption marathon the spring of 2012. I’m crazy exciting about it…and completely terrified it might suck as much as my first one did {under-trained, half injured}. I have about a week left to decide before the price goes up again!

I really like the long glove dealios they have…I’d totally wear those!

Those are so cute – love them! I am going to head back to Beach 2 Battleship for my second iron distance and really work on improving my time. Now that I know I can make it to the finish line, I want to set a time goal… and crush it :)

For the past two years I feel that I’ve been saying that I want to compete in an Olympic distance triathlon – this year I’m signing up and committing to doing it!

I’m training for my first marathon at Boston! I’m hoping to set an even better PR while there by using a training plan that only takes me a max of 16 miles. I was forced to only run a max of 13 while I was injured training to BQ last year at Grandma’s and so I focused on quality of my runs instead of just more and more and more miles. And it worked!!

Those are super cute! I love the thumb holes!

I’m training for my first ironman (coeur d’alene) this year, which should push me way beyond my comfort level.

You look so much cuter in those than that depressed-looking lady! I was confused… are they funeral sleeves?! Nope, they’re IRONwoMAN sleeves! Even though I know they’re covered in snot, you are still sporting them much better :)

Believe it or not, being out of my comfort zone is Not being registered for an Ironman this year! It is difficult to “train” without a plan or goal. Looking for shorter distance triathlons close to home to include some of my training buddies. I love those arm warmers!!

Hi! I’ve already signed up for my first half Ironman in July and i would to try those arm warmers :)

Reply

Brooke December 24, 2011 at 4:28 am

Can’t say that I’m ready to undertake the Ironman like you did (yet…. who knows… ;) Especially the swim, you don’t want to see me in the pool….

But, after a few years of major injury and several surgeries, I’m going to see if my body will handle a half marathon next year. I took it for granted so many years during the time that I was able to run… and I hope to never do that again. We’ll see how my running progresses! :)

I recently discovered that I am in love with arm warmers/sleeves. Seriously, where have they been all my running life?? The only ones I’ve seen here are solid colored though. i’d love some fancy sleeves now.

It’s hard to say what I’ll do to get out of comfort zone. I think this year I did so in a pretty big way by doing 2 half marathons – which is still surreal to me considering this time last year I was just learning to love running. I think my big move is to get my personal trainer cert and try to help others.

Great arm sleeves! Not only am I continuing my running training to get that half marathon in, I’ve joined a small group in a 600 rep workout challenge. 10 full body exercises, 30 reps each, routine repeated twice! On my second day of the challenge, I’m at 168 reps. Still a ways to go, but not stopping until I get there!

Getting faster is always a goal, breaking the 2:40 barrier in an olympic distance. But I think the thing really outside the comfort zone is really pushing it in the swim. Open water is fine on it’s own, but really going fast in open water, still scary.

Hi Nicole!
Although my goal dosen’t seem as ambitious as others posted, my personal goal this year is to loose the recently baby weight I have gainied…right after I have her! lol. Seriously though, I have always hated running, my motto was “I only run when chased”. What has inspired me to try to get out of my comfort zone is the simplicity of this activity. You dont need fancy gear or even a gym…just a road or a trail and a positive state of mind. Plus, its something I can do with my newest addition!

Reply

Nicole December 27, 2011 at 8:45 am

I think that is a VERY ambitious goal! My husband does a lot of tactical military scary things for a living, and he always tells me that I’m braver out of the two of us. I have fear of normal things that he doesn’t but I still do them. For that, (according to his logic) I’m braver than him. So, what I’m trying to say is that it is all relative. I think it is a very ambitious goal since your comfort zone could be different than others! Good luck!

I try to get out of my comfort zone by trying things I’ve never done before. This year I stepped up with my mileage and did 2 half marathons. Now that I know I can do the distance, I’d like to do it faster!
I love those running sleeves!! Such fun designs!

My comfort zone was blown away this year when my husband of 8 years told me in April that he is gay. Add to that that we were stationed in Japan and 10,000 miles away from family and I had for some uncomfortable months. Since April, I have found a job I like that pays me enough to be independent, moved to Florida, bought a car, bought a home, PRed at Portland Marathon, got a divorce and remained best friends with my wasband. It’s been hard, but life is good. I’m not sure I even know what a comfort zone is anymore, but in September I’m going to do a three day trail event in IL. The first day you do a night 10k, second day 25k, and the third day a 50k. It sounds like fun to me! Thanks for this opportunity, AmyD

I signed up for my first Half Ironman yesterday. I’ll be racing April 1, in Galveston, TX. So excited, and nervous to start the training! I’ve done a marathon before, but the longest tri distance has been a sprint. And I’m speculating IMTX 2013. Yikes! Love your blog btw!

I’m planning on stepping out of my comfort zone by actually completing a triathlon! I signed up for one this past year, but the swim portion got canceled a few days prior to the event, so technically, I completed a duathlon. I can’t let this pass by without trying it again…the WHOLE thing!

Reply

Shannon December 29, 2011 at 9:39 am

I’m going to train and do my first duathlon in 2012. I have yet to combine more than one sport and I think that’s a good challenge and place to start.
