Riding to Castroville

Another week has flown by. I have to admit, the elimination diet along with the candida treatment that I started on Friday left me feeling like crap for the weekend. The patient binder that my doc sent me home with on Wednesday mentioned all of these symptoms that I might experience within the first week, and they weren’t kidding!

  • Bad breath
  • Body aches
  • Body odor
  • Brain fog
  • Changes in bowl movements, sleep, mood
  • Cravings
  • Fatigue
  • Itchy skin
  • Joint/muscle pain
  • Rash
  • Headaches/Migraines

I had a migraine all day on Saturday along with cold-like symptoms.  I couldn’t sleep at all Saturday night.  I honestly just wanted to cancel my Sunday ride with my friend, Leah, since I had no sleep and felt like poo.  However, I had a feeling that some exercise would actually help my headache go away, so I went.  The first hour was brutal.  I’m not gonna lie.  It sucked a lot.  I was nauseas and exhausted, but I was happy to see my friend so that helped a little.

We made our way to Castroville with dreams of donuts.  Well, at least I was just looking forward to smelling some since I couldn’t eat any.  We had heard of this mystical donut shop that many of the local cyclists stop at up there in the middle of their rides.  We found it…but it was closed on Sundays. :( Oh, well!  Until next time!  I think Leah was more bummed than me since she was actually thinking of eating one.

The hour back was SO much better!  My headache went away.  My legs started working the way they should.  I was actually wide awake.    We were both chugging water like crazy since it was a little warm and humid out, and we ended the bike ride with riding up a short gnarly hill that made my legs want to fall off and happy the ride was almost over! It was perfect.


Isn’t it amazing how working out can make you feel so much better?

Workout Recap for last week:

3 Mile run w/ dogs; easy pace
Strength: Legs

4 Mile Speedwork intervals
Strength: Chest/Shoulders/Triceps

2 mile run w/ dogs

Strength: Back/Biceps



2 hour bike ride

I don’t know if you noticed, but I also wore my Team Blaze jersey for our bike ride to support my teammates competing in Ironman CDA on Sunday.  I am so proud of them!!! I was sending them good vibes all the way from San Antonio. 😉

I will leave you with a scorpion and her babies on her back that my husband found on a rotting piece of timber behind our house. She was pissed we were taking her picture and kept moving around. I thought it was pretty cool!

I have many things to get done this week including a job interview.  Wish me luck!!!

    No doubt the first part of the dietary changes can feel like moving backwards, but it really does get better!! I fully agree that a great workout does wonders for my mood and energy

      Yeah, I wasn’t eating much crap before, it is just the candida die off medication that was killing me! lol. Thank goodness I have great friends who I want to work out with otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten out of bed that morning!

    What a lovely ride! Sorry about the damn doughnut shop being closed. I’m sure they’re overrated, anyway (but not really).

    Have you read the book Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis? It has changed my life. I highly recommend it. I had IBS and it is now gone. :) I’m a really happy camper! :)

      I have heard nothing but good things about that book! I have been GF for 3 or 4 years now though. I wish all I had to do was pull gluten out otherwise I would have felt better years ago! 😉 Thanks though!
