Spartan Race Giveaway!!! – Geek Turned Athlete

Spartan Race Giveaway!!!

******This giveaway has now closed. Thank you to all who participated!**********

Happy Friday!!!  I have a freaking amazing giveaway for you all today.  It is for a free entry to any open heat of any Spartan Race in the continental U.S. of your choosing!!!!

For my long time readers you know that I’ve done many races including 2 Ironmans, and the hubs has done the Leadville 100.  We both love pushing ourselves to the limits.  One of the few types of races that we haven’t tried have been obstacle course related.  This seems like such a fun challenge especially if you want to try something out of the norm.  Watch this video, and tell me you are not pumped up!!  I dare you!!

Needless to say, I thought some of my hardcore readers would be into this.  If you aren’t hardcore, maybe you want to try something out of your comfort zone?

To enter, you need to comment below telling me about the hardest/most gratifying race you have ever done.  If you are a race virgin, tell me how you get out of your comfort zone.

For a second entry, tweet: @GeekTurnAthlete is featuring a @SpartanRace entry giveaway! http://geekturnedathlete.com/2013/06/spartan-race-giveaway/ ‎.  Then, link to your tweet in another comment below.

I will randomly pick the winner next Friday, June 14th, 2013.  Good luck!!!!

The most gratifying race I’ve ever done is my first sprint triathlon. Now it doesn’t seem like it was a big deal but at the time I didn’t know what to expect and I worked my tail off to train for it. Finishing that race was one of the best feelings ever!!!

That looks amazing! Honestly the hardest race I did was a marathon (Chicago). I loved it though especially all the spectators and friends of mine who came out to cheer me on. Awesome experience!

Hardest most gratifying race was definitely my tough mudder this past weekend! Thanks to the mountains and the heat, phew!

I have been wanting to do one of these types of races for so long!! I really thought I was going to do the last Tough Mudder that was nearby recently….and I just fell off the wagon on my training and then couldn’t afford it. :-\ So I’m currently still a virgin racer….but I really want to change that and would LOVE to do a Spartan race!! To get out of my comfort zone, I love working out with other people who are more advanced than me, because I push myself to keep up with them when I would go much easier on myself if I was working out alone….
    Thanks so much!! :) :)

The toughest race I’ve ever done is the Primal Mud Run, which I ran last year. It’s very similar to the mud races we all know about. I had never done one like that before, and it was both a mental and physical challenge.

My hardest race was the Cinco de Mayo 5k I did this May. I was coming off a horrible tailbone injury but dug deep to get it done.

The hardest race I have ever done was my first (and probably last, ha!) marathon, the Naha Marathon in Okinawa, Japan. My husband was deployed to Afghanistan so I trained with my BFF, Janet. We trained together and planned to start and finish together. At mile 13 I tripped over a traffic cone and twisted my knee and at mile 21 I started losing my mental composure. Janet talked me through to mile 23, where I totally lost it, cussing her out and starting to walk. At six hours they shut the gates to the stadium finish line. We were nearing the deadline and I was being nasty and walking so Janet went ahead of me, finishing in tears. I got myself together and with every bit of energy and willpower I could muster, ran the last three miles and finished. Now our husbands are both stationed in Virginia and we have vowed to train, start and finish the Spartan Super Sprint on 8/25 TOGETHER. We haven’t registered yet and I would love to win this since they aren’t cheap!

My favorite race was for autism awareness. I had just left my soul sucking job a few days before, and would be starting a job with autistic children. The agency I was going to be working for was a sponsor at the race. It was incredible to see soooo many people supporting such a wonderful cause, and being able to join in with my new coworkers. It was only a 5k, but it was also a race I ran smiling the whole way

The Tough Mudder was tough, but nothing compared to my first ever triathon. I wasn’t as trained up as I should have been, and I didn’t account for the longer duration so I didn’t eat beforehand. I bonked almost from the get go. Powered through, but honestly if I had seen an ambulance anywhere on the course I would have gotten into it. Learned a lot, though.
